EMILY ELIZABETH THOMAS
Emily Elizabeth Thomas is a screenwriter and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York and her hometown of Austin, Texas. She is a classically trained artist, holding an interdisciplinary BA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MA from NYU’s Gallatin School for Individualized Study in screenwriting. A true cowgirl at heart, Emily brings her Texas grit to every project.
EET is a genre filmmaker that explores ideas of womanhood, trauma and resiliency through a unique patina made of both girl and grit. Emily’s work confronts traditional ideas of femininity with a punk flair, and seeks to inspire women and girls to believe in their magic.
Her first bow on the film festival circuit was in 2018 with her breakout short film ‘Lola: Girl Got a Gun’. Since then her narrative work has screened in and won domestic and international film festivals such as the Marfa Film Festival, Nitehawk Shorts Fest and Oslo Independent Film Fest. Her work has been praised by FILM THREAT, FILM SHORTAGE, DIRECTOR’S NOTES, BLACK BOOK, AD AGE, SHOTS and more. She is currently in development with her first narrative feature: a coming of age psychological thriller which explores mental illness, motherhood, grief, and the ineffable love between women. Her first narrative feature ‘Bye Bye Daisy’ — a coming of age psychological thriller set in the early aughts — has recently been optioned, and was awarded Quarter Finalist of the Santa Barbara International Screenplay Awards.
Commercially, EET has directed branded campaigns for clients such as ESPN, Disney, Brooklyn Film Festival, Atlantic Records and the Texas State Senate. Her first job in advertising (The Gathering with TBWA/Chiat/Day) was shortlisted for an ADC and One Show award, and named Shots Best of the Month. In 2021 she was inducted into the prestigious SHOOT New Director’s Showcase.
Aside from filmmaking, Emily is passionate about 90’s fashion, classic rock, old movie theaters and tacos.
